At Latch Build, we are a Wanaka building company specialising in quality new homes, architectural builds, and home renovations across Wanaka and the wider Central Otago region. As Licensed Building Practitioners and members of New Zealand Certified Builders, we focus on delivering well-organised residential construction with clear communication from day one.

Latch Build is led by directors Cam and Tara. Cam is a builder and project manager with extensive experience delivering high-quality residential projects, while Tara manages client communication and ensures every build runs smoothly from the client’s perspective. Together, we work closely with homeowners, architects, and designers to build thoughtful, well-crafted homes and provide a reliable, well-managed building experience from start to finish.

Project overview

This Peninsula Bay home was always intended to be an evolving project. From the beginning, our client wanted the flexibility to make decisions throughout the build, allowing the design and detailing to develop along the way. This approach created a collaborative and fluid building process, where ideas could be refined as the project progressed.

Designed by Pete from Open Arch, this striking two-storey home captures expansive views of Lake Wanaka and the surrounding mountains while maintaining privacy within a busy neighbourhood. The design carefully balances openness with shelter, creating light-filled living spaces that connect with the landscape.

Throughout the build, we worked closely with the client and architect to deliver the vision, incorporating a range of bespoke details including a custom-built staircase and extensive cedar lining throughout the home. Projects like this highlight the importance of communication, craftsmanship, and adaptability during the construction process.

The Peninsula Bay Project

Our Latch Show Home, currently under construction in Luggate just outside Wanaka, is a project that reflects both our professional approach to building and the way we like to live. Designed as our own family home, the focus has been on creating a space that balances thoughtful design with everyday practicality.

The home features a number of bespoke elements including curved walls, custom joinery, and carefully selected materials and finishes that bring warmth and character to the spaces. Throughout the design and build process, we have prioritised energy efficiency and low-maintenance materials to create a home that performs well in Central Otago’s climate while remaining comfortable and easy to live in.

As the build nears completion, the home is becoming a place that reflects both our passion for building and our belief that great homes should be thoughtfully designed, practical, and built to last.
